BART trains fully operating again after extensive delays

BART trains resumed normal service Saturday morning after electrical issuesCommuters on Friday had dealt with major delays throughout the system after a train lost power in the tube about 7:11 a.m. The train was moved out and passengers were evacuated just after 8:30 a.m., but the power issues remained, forcing trains to use only one track int he tube throughout the day.

Passengers had to endure long waits, transfer trains more frequently, use bus bridges and ferries to travel to their destinations. In a statement Friday afternoon, BART officials said an electrical overcurrent had caused a breaker to trip offline. The failure took took a segment of rail in the tube out of service, the agency said. As a result, they said riders experienced delays of at least 30 minutes.

BART officials first announced Friday afternoon that the power problem would require crews to work on the tube overnight, and that service would be affected “at least” through the end of the Friday schedule, However, they said just before 11 p.m. Friday — well before the end of service — that the issue had been resolved. The power issues in the Transbay Tube have been resolved. Normal train service has been restored.A reminder for morning riders.
