It appears some people have been breaking the law
Foraging has had a surge in popularity, with more and more people taking to the wild in search of herbs, nuts, mushrooms, berries and other foods. It's not just chefs who have a desire - just this week it was revealed how a Brighton man cuts his supermarket bill to £5 a week by surviving on a diet of 50 per cent foraged foods.
The announcement said: "We appreciate foraging is a great outdoor activity, but an increase in foraging within the deers' feeding space has become intolerable. Damage to tree branches of mature trees due to people trying to knock off chestnuts has also contributed to this decision. A woman commented: "We used to love picking a few chestnuts off the ground each autumn. Only a few as we're respectful foragers but last year we noticed the same groups with black bags full. Literally clearing tree for tree. It's become worse every year. So greedy. Very sad for nature and those that are respectful foragers."
“It’s not somewhere I’d take groups but I’d visit regularly, I was often there for mushrooms and sweet chestnuts. I stuck to the paths and made sure it was done in a sustainable way."
