The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore has collapsed after beinig struck by a cargo ship overnight.
A rescue effort is underway after a ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday morning, causing it to collapse and send multiple vehicles into the water below.A large vessel hit the bridge at around 1:30 a.m., catching on fire before sinking and causing the vehicles to fall into the water, according to a video posted on X, formerly Twitter.The person who posted the clip said the bridge collapsed after a cargo ship hit a support beam.
'Emergency responders were searching for at least seven people thought to be in the water, Kevin Cartwright, director of communications for the Baltimore Fire Department, told The Associated Press at around 3 a.m. local time.Cartwright said that 911 calls came in at around 1:30 a.m. reporting that a vessel traveling outbound from Baltimore had struck a column on the bridge, causing it to collapse.
