Emma Tenayuca Memorial Way will inspire and remind a city of its dark past.
SAN ANTONIO — Sometime next year, pending City Council approval, a brown sign will be erected on a stretch of Cevallos Street between Interstate 35 and Probandt Road.
The Tenayuca project will be on a council agenda early next year, but already has the support of Mayor Ron Nirenberg and District 5 Councilwoman Teri Castillo, among other council members. The shellers were mostly Mexican American women, children as young as 10 and older men, said historian Sarah Gould, executive director of the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute, or MACRI, which is playing a research role in the memorial way project.
