The new Avengers may not survive ego and romance.
Steve Rogers is assembling a new team of heroes for the Uncanny Avengers, and that means figuring out new dynamics and relationships. It could mean romance is in the air, too, especially for two of the Marvel Universe's most egotistic people - Pietro Maximoff and Monet . A romance between those two enormous personalities could blow up, and not in any way that benefits the team or their mission.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The solicitation for Uncanny Avengers #2 – by Gerry Dugan, Javier Garron, and Marte Garcia – suggests love is in the air. While the team deals with the fallout from the Mutant Massacre and encounters a new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, "a new romance hits that will make readers froth at the mouth.
The Avengers Don't Have Time for Romance The ultra-fast Pietro and Monet have enough in common for sparks, and possibly fists, to fly. Both come equipped with large egos and quick tempers, and any lover's quarrel between the two would undoubtedly spill over into the team. Both are known for going after what they want, even if it's ill-advised, or completely forbidden. If it falls apart as quickly as it begins, they could take the newly-formed Avengers down with them.
Quicksilver married Crystal shortly after he met her, and continued to pine for her long after their separation, even hallucinating the two of them reuniting during his lowest moments in X-Factor: The Quick and the Dead #1 by Peter David, Pablo Raimondi, and Jeromy Cox. Despite his flirtatious and arrogant nature, he hasn't had many other serious romantic links, although he did develop feelings for Synapse, another Avengers teammate.
Neither Quicksilver nor Penance are strangers to heartbreak, or blurring the lines between work and play, and it's possible they could see beyond one another's arrogance into the loyal personas beneath. Both are capable of causing massive amounts of damage in the heat of the moment. Getting too caught up in personal affairs could also leave the team hanging, and the new Avengers have too much on the horizon to shoulder that kind of blow.
