A collection of new behind-the-scenes images shows off the cast of Netflix's upcoming adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series will be a live-action update of the beloved animated show, which originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008. The series follows the adventures of the Avatar, a mythical figure who can control all four elements and whose current incarnation is that of ten-year-old boy Aang, who must protect his world from the wicked Fire Nation.
Although the entire cast list hasn't been announced yet, Netflix has already revealed the core group of actors who will be bringing the series' major characters to life. The trio of heroes, the airbending Avatar Aang, the novice waterbender Katara, and her goofy older brother Sokka, will be played by Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, and Ian Ousley respectively.
At the very least, fans who have been patiently awaiting the series since it was first announced in 2018 can breathe a sigh of relief that production is clearly well underway. Avatar: The Last Airbender will have to do a lot to prove that it can tackle adapting such a beloved property and not sink into the mire like Netflix's Cowboy Bebop series, which was canceled just three weeks after its release.
