Reuters reported last month that buyers including a state-owned Chinese company had been stockpiling Australian cotton in Chinese warehouses in the hope that cotton would soon be allowed to flow freely. Those exports together were worth $278 million, according to the customs records, accessed using Trade Data Monitor.

China and Australia, do not see eye-to-eye on strategic issues, but they also have a deep economic relationship. China has lifted tariffs on Australian barley exports, and I am told have just recently removed barriers to Australian hay exports.
