Austin leaders are gathering information and recommendations from other cities on the matter, according to a March 25 memorandum from Assistant City Manager Rey Arellano to Mayor Steve Adler and the City Council. City officials asked agencies in other states that have passed laws to legalize marijuana about the policies they have implemented. Of the 20 cities that they contacted, only Boston said that its employees are allowed to use prescription marijuana.Nine additional cities in Arizona, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico and Illinois said they do not allow first responders to use prescription marijuana, and the remaining agencies did not reply.
