“Through 17 spring practices you can find out a lot about your team,” Stump said. “Kids are competing, and you have to learn how to compete against one another before you go out and compete with another team. These kids have energy and want to be here to compete.” Spring ball is not used to talk about opponents or discuss what happened last season, Stump said. It’s about growth and development, and he wants to be able to tell his players what their focus should be in the summer for improvement.
