Five gunshot victims and a burn victims were taken to area hospitals, the fire department said.
At least five people were shot late Thursday in the 800 block of North State Street, blocks from the Magnificent Mile, authorities said.A Chicago Fire Department spokesman said personnel responded at about 10:30 p.m. to the scene and took five gunshot victims and one burn victim to area hospitals. One victim was in grave condition and the other gunshot victims were all in serious to critical condition, Chief Juan Hernandez, a spokesperson with the fire department said.
The victims were taken to Illinois Masonic, Stroger, and Northwestern Memorial hospitals, Hernandez said. There were no suspects in custody, Chicago Police spokesman Tom Ahern said in a Tweet just after 11 p.m. Amid the chaos of the shooting’s aftermath, a woman yelled at officer standing near the station entrance, “What hospital? My brother got shot!”
