At least 22 people have been killed and dozens injured after a shooting in the US state of Maine, with police still hunting for the gunman. Authorities in Lewiston said they were investigating 'two active shooter events' and warned people to take shelter. A police source told NBC News at least 22 people are dead and as many as 50-60 injured, making it the deadliest mass shooting in the US this year.
They also posted a picture of a white Subaru they wanted to trace. President Biden has been briefed and has spoken to the state governor to offer full federal support, the White House said. Lewiston is a city of about 35,000 people in the far northeast of the US. Maine has one of the lowest per capita murder rates in America, with state police recording only 29 homicides in 2022.
