Customers were not allowed inside the store as forensic officers carried out investigations
The ECHO was told by a staff member inside the Aintree branch of Asda that the store wouldn't be opening as planned at 8am on Easter Monday as forensic officers were carrying out work inside. The staff member wouldn't confirm at that point what had happened.
Just beyond the handwritten notice, part of the entrance window had been smashed and a makeshift cordon of metal barriers and tape had been put in place. Asked about the closure, a security guard pointed at the destruction and said: "The police are here for that." They confirmed they didn't know when people would be allowed into the store.
Outside, one shopper told the ECHO she "saw something on Facebook about Asda being shut" and "just assumed it was an April Fools". Another said she just assumed the quiet scenes were "because of the bank holiday".
