As the population shifts to urban areas from rural communities that tend to vote Republican, Democrats will have more chances to draw voters, they said. Texas hasn’t elected a Democratic governor in more than 25 years. Republicans have controlled both chambers of the Texas Legislature for two decades.
Voters also were most concerned about kitchen table issues, such as the economy and inflation, as opposed to gun control and abortion rights — two of the social issues Democrats have pushed, Saxe said.
