Officials responded to complaints about a Pride-themed display and story hour by revising library policies — but protesters still want further changes
Solana Beach School District controversy raises the question: What should schools do when people object to library books? The controversy began early in June but came to a head after a pre-school storytime event featuring “The Rainbow Parade,” a picture book about a young girl who attends her first Pride parade in San Francisco.
Some protesters apparently went as far as to check out the books from the LGBTQ+ storytime display as a demonstration — a move that echoed the Rancho Peñasquitos protest.
