Stanford University's Renew Biobank Director Liesl Nel-Themaat said the decision not to accept embryos from most states comes after consulting with attorneys. The seven states excluded are: California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Illinois and Nevada.“These were approved by our lawyers based on the political environment and the stance of each state on abortion and personhood," said Nel-Themaat, also director of the in vitro fertilization laboratory and an associate professor at Stanford Medicine Fertility and Reproductive Health.
She said doctors in the reproductive health community are experiencing"a deluge of calls from patients who want to move their embryos to a safe state."
