Arrest made 28 years after Oceanside woman stabbed to death in her home [Breaking]
A little more than 28 years ago, Dolores Rabaya was found dead in her Oceanside home. She had been stabbed 27 times, police said.
Her suspected killer — linked to the slaying by forensic evidence — has been arrested, Oceanside police said Thursday. Jesse Velazquez Ayala, now 58 years old, has pleaded not guilty to charges of burglary, car theft and murder, as well as allegations that Rabaya’s slaying happened during the commission of a rape and robbery. He remains jailed in lieu of $5 million bail.
Rabaya’s body was found on a bed inside her home on Edgehill Drive, north of Oceanside Boulevard, on New Year’s Day 1994. The body had multiple stab wounds, including five to her head and six to her chest, police said.Investigators gathered forensic evidence, but they were not able to identify a suspect.
In 2015, DNA found on that old evidence was resubmitted for examination, and it helped point to a suspect, police said. Last week, Oceanside police tracked down and arrested Velazquez Ayala.
