The former Mercury Motor Inn closed as a hotel in 1999
An application to bulldoze the eyesore remains of Moffat’s former Mercury Motor Inn was approved by Dumfries and Galloway council on Monday.
He said: “If and when the day does come that the Mercury does come down, I’ll be there – as I’m sure many others in the town will be too – and we’ll celebrate with a glass of something.” During the decades there have been action groups formed, petitions signed and community appeals to the Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group for it to be brought back into use which have amounting to nothing.
