WordPress developer Matt Mullenwag tweeted Friday that Apple was blocking him from updating the iPhone Wordpress app until he added the ability to make in-app purchases. The Wordpress app lets users create and update websites, but it doesn’t outwardly sell anything, causing many to accuse Apple of strong-arming Wordpress into offering a paid service so it could take a cut of the revenue.
Apple, meanwhile, said the app at one point had a payment plans section, which the company says is a violation of its rules barring developers from selling services outside Apple’s payments system—though theIn a statement Saturday, Apple said Wordpress would no longer be required to include in-app purchases because “the developer removed the display of their service payment options from the app … we have informed the developer and apologize for any confusion that we have caused.
