The project was first announced last December and is expected to make Apple the largest private employer in the city.

Apple's announcement comes as President Trump is scheduled to tour the company's manufacturing facility in Austin on Wednesday at 2:20 p.m. Central. Last week, Apple reportedly hired Jeffrey Miller, a close ally of President Trump, as the company lobbies to avoid getting hit with new tariffs. And in September, Apple said it will continue to make its new Mac Pro in Austin, reversing earlier plans to move production overseas. Apple's stock, which fell 0.5% in premarket trading, as run up 69% year to date through Tuesday while the Dow Jones Industrial Average has gained 20%.
