Which true-wireless in-ears are worth your money, now there are three sets of AirPods to choose from?
It’s the price that makes this choice difficult. If you don’t need the spatial audio benefits and you think the regular AirPods have enough battery life for you, the $129 price tag is sensational. Of course, you don’t get a wireless charging case as with other AirPods models, but you’re saving a lot of money. And, let’s remember, AirPods have been an aspirational purchase since the first day they were announced, so to suddenly find these earbuds are so much cheaper and you can see the appeal.
AirPods continue to be the easiest wireless buds to set up and to use. All Apple’s AirPods offer seamless connectivity and switching between devices. Not to mention features which first appeared with the original AirPods such as the audio pausing automatically when you remove an earbud, resuming when you replace it.Bose QuietComfort Earbuds in soapstone finish.Another pair of amazing but pricey earbuds with noise-cancelling that’s hard to fault.
Bose noise-cancelling is consistently outstanding and it’s very detailed here, with 10 settings to choose from. You can adjust on the smartphone app or set three favourite levels to use directly on the earbuds. Some earbuds automatically pause the music if you take one out of your ears. Bose also cuts noise-cancelling to the earbud that remains in place. Audio quality is strong throughout, even with noise-cancelling turned off and across multiple genres. Clear, detailed and faithful.
Apple’s audio tuning is superb and makes listening a pleasure. The fit is enhanced by the choice of three ear tips, and, this being Apple, there’s even a system on board where it can listen to the buds in your ear to definitively tell you if you have the right fit. Then there’s the noise-cancelling which is on a par with Sony’s and Bose’s—which is saying something. The controls, as on the 3-gen AirPods, involves squeezing the stalk to turn noise-cancelling on or off and to change tracks.
AirPods Pro are tremendous, and, although they’re the priciest in-ear AirPods, they remain great value.Honestly? You can’t go wrong with any of the above. Sony’s headphones have the best overall audio, and Bose noise-cancelling with its 10 levels will appeal to many.-generation AirPods is hard to resist, but you won’t regret the extra cost for the AirPods 3-generation. Even so, if your budget stretches to AirPods Pro, they remain the standout earbuds for Apple users.
