Riders slotback Duke Williams has served his suspension and is looking forward to playing the visiting B.C. Lions on Friday.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ slotback was suspended for one game for an altercation with Toronto Argonauts’ defensive back Shaq Richardson in Wolfville, N.S. on July 16. Williams was disciplined for ripping the helmet off Richardson and throwing it at him.
“If you’re not a dog and you’re weak, then you make up excuses and that’s what you do,” Williams said. “He made up an excuse because I dogged him out. At the end of the day, he made up an excuse. I didn’t spit on anybody and that’s what it is.” “When you poke a bear too much, of course he’s going to get angry and that’s what happened,” Williams said. “I got out of character because I was mad. I let my emotions get the best of me, which is something that I can’t do. I’m a professional athlete and I have these fans looking up to me. I’m a leader of this team and I can’t show that on the field.”
