The Democratic nominee will be either attorney Sandy Kennedy or Daniel McDown, a member of the West Melbourne city council. Trump carried the heavily Republican district twice with 58% of the vote. Although Democrat Joe Biden received 48% of Florida’s vote in 2020, his then-reelection campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, said in athat Florida was not a battleground state, even though an April campaign memo described an “opening in Florida.” She's now with Kamala Harris' presidential campaign.
The AP does not make projections and will declare a winner only when it’s determined there is no scenario that would allow the trailing candidates to close the gap.
