In Sonoma County, Santa Rosa, Bodega Bay and Cloverdale could see as much as 2 to 2.
San Jose and other parts of the South Bay will likely see just three quarters of an inch to 1 inch of rain, while higher elevation areas like Mount Tamalpais could see as much as 4 inches of rain, Clouser said. “This is definitely not an atmospheric river — the reason being we don’t have that moisture tap coming out of the south,” Clouser said. “With an atmospheric river, you have moisture that comes up from the tropics, and we’re not seeing that fire hose so to speak.”
That’s not to say that the upcoming storm system won’t have its fair share of substantial impacts. “Decent flooding” in urban and small streams is a possibility, especially in the North Bay where higher amounts of rain are predicted to fall, Clouser noted. Lower elevation areas are expected to see 20 to 30 mph peak wind gusts, while higher terrain parts of the region could see 40 to 50 mph gusts, leading to downed trees and power lines.
“Roads will be slick so take it slow,” Clouser said. “Turn on your headlights and be sure to give other cars extra room.”
