Troopers have a warrant to remove Ace from his owner, but it is currently unknown if Ace is still alive.
Published: Feb. 27, 2024 at 5:38 PM AKSTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - On Sunday, February 25, Jesse Hughes was driving on Funny River Road near Soldotna when she saw a dog running along the road with its mouth taped shut and blood on its hindquarters.
The Kenai Peninsula Animal Lovers Rescue sent out Ace’s story to other animal rescues, and within two hours raised the $3,000 to pay for his surgery and treatment. The surgery was a success, and the veterinarian said Ace he should completely recover with four to six weeks of bed rest. On Monday the dog’s owner, 63 year old Sam Allen Renney of Soldotna, reportedly told both Alaska State Troopers and the veterinarians that he was the one who attempted to kill Ace, and that he intended to complete the job. Renney reported that Ace had bitten him, and he intended to put the dog down “so that he wouldn’t bite anyone else.”Sgt.
When Hughes talked to Newscenter Fairbanks over the phone, she described how Ace approached her calmly when called, allowed himself to be lifted into her vehicle, and stood quietly when the vet had removed the tape from his face and shaved him to check his injuries.
