Andy Robertson is set to face a battle to claim his left-back role at Liverpool under Arne Slot after a difficult 12 months
Andy Robertson would be the first to admit it hasn't been the most straightforward 12 months. And now the left-back faces arguably the biggest challenge to his first-team place at Liverpool since becoming one of the mainstays of their glory days under Jurgen Klopp . From injuries, loss of form, a change in role, a new manager through to competition for places, there has been plenty with which Robertson has had to contend since the start of last season.
And it won't have passed unnoticed Kostas Tsimikas has quietly impressed during pre-season, scoring in the 3-0 win over Manchester United. Tsimikas, like Robertson, is hoping for better fortune after a season hampered by untimely injury. Having taken a couple of games to gain rhythm after replacing the crocked Robertson last autumn, the Greece international began to hit his stride before breaking his collar bone following a collision with Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka shortly before Christmas.
