The Scot will face Yannick Hanfmann in the first round of the Geneva Open on Monday, with the winner likely to face world No 1 Novak Djokovic in the second round.
Andy Murray could potentially go head-to-head with world No 1 Novak Djokovic in the second round of the Geneva Open this week, if he manages to overcome German Yannick Hanfmann on Monday.
Djokovic, who was surprisingly defeated by Chilean Alejandro Tabilo at the Internazionali d'Italia in Rome last week, is looking to bounce back in Geneva, where he will be making his tournament debut. If Djokovic and Murray do meet, it will mark their 37th encounter, with the Serbian currently leading 25-11. Should the pair face off again, they will share the court for the first time since the final of the Qatar Open in 2017, which Djokovic won in three sets.
Murray memorably defeated the Serbian star to win his first Grand Slam at the US Open in 2012, at Wimbledon in 2013, and in the ATP World Tour Finals which saw the Scot crowned as the best male tennis player on the planet at the end of 2016. However, the double Olympic gold medallist has won just two of his eighth meetings with Djokovic in Grand Slam finals.
After suffering a serious ankle injury earlier this year, it was feared that Murray, 37 would be forced into retirement. However, the Dunblane star has returned to action in recent weeks as he gears up for another appearance at the French Open. Murray goes into the clash with Hanfmann on Monday looking to bounce back from his defeat in a challenger event in Bordeaux last Friday. Murray, who is currently ranked as the world's 77th best male tennis player, was was defeated 6-4 6-2 by world number 115 Gregoire Barrere earlier this week.
