Despite Disney previously debunking the window, Andor creator Tony Gilroy confirms that season 2 begins filming this November. 'In fact, we’re finishing our final mix on [Episode] 12 tomorrow.'
Lucasfilm look to be making major headway on its latest Star Wars show as creator Tony Gilroy reveals Andor season 2 will begin filming in November. The series will act as a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and explore the origins of Cassian Andor, the thief who would go on to become a revolutionary, join the Rebellion and help put the pieces in place to bring the Death Star down.
Diego Luna is returning to lead the cast of Andor in the titular role alongside fellow Star Wars vets Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma and Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, as well as franchise newcomers Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Fiona Shaw, Robert Emms, David Hayman, Alex Ferns and Clemens Schick.
"We are covering one year in our first 12 episodes that we’ve completed, in fact, we’re finishing our final mix on [Episode] 12 tomorrow. We are going to do another 12 episodes starting in November and the organizing principle for shooting is that we do blocks of three, so last year we were looking at the difficulty of doing five years, which seemed like it would take us the next 30 years.
It's interesting that Gilroy has confirmed Andor season 2 will start filming in November given that a report had previously indicated the Star Wars show would get back to production at that time was debunked by Disney. Some speculated that another Star Wars project would be filming in November instead of Andor season 2, given Lucasfilm has multiple other shows in the work, including Jude Law's Skeleton Crew, which is set for a 2023 release.
Regardless of when it will arrive, the confirmation that Andor season 2 will start filming in November should come as exciting news for fans of the Star Wars franchise. With the show said to explore the five years of Andor's life prior to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, with season 1 chronicling one year, it will be interesting to see if Gilroy and his team split up the story across five seasons or if season 2 will close out the prequel series.
