The AnatomyOfAScandal trailer shows off Netflix's gripping new thriller/courtroom drama series based on Sarah Vaughan's best-selling novel, starring Sienna Miller, Michelle Dockery, and Rupert Friend. The show hits Netflix on April 15.
Netflix shows off the twists, turns and drama in the trailer for its new series Anatomy of a Scandal. The series is adapted from the book of the same name by Sarah Vaughan, an ex-Guardian journalist who began writing novels in 2008. The original "Anatomy of a Scandal" was Vaughan's third novel and spent 10 weeks on the Sunday Times bestseller list, before Netflix commissioned a miniseries based on the story in 2020.
Anatomy of a Scandal centers on Sophie , the wife of parliamentarian James who stands accused of a terrible crime. Sophie is convinced of his innocence but Kate , the lawyer for the prosecution, is certain that James is guilty. Drawing from her background as a political reporter and her experiences at Oxford University, Vaughan constructs a story about abuse of power and the suspicious intimacy shared between lovers, which Netflix has made into one, six-episode series.
Anatomy of a Scandal's star-studded cast calls to mind another of co-creator David E. Kelley's projects, Big Little Lies. The series looks to be a performance-heavy one, with Miller, Dockery and Friend seemingly firing on all cylinders. A great deal of this approach will be familiar to fans Kelley's previous work, which also includes The Undoing and Nine Perfect Strangers, both of which fore-fronted dramatic plot twists.
All in all, it looks as if crime thriller fans are in for a treat with Anatomy of a Scandal, as the show could prove to be a great merger of British low-key crime projects with the often more high-stakes drama of American TV series. With a strong cast and such experienced writers at the helm, Netflix's Anatomy of a Scandal is set to capture the seedy underworld of Westminster, with a nice injection of dramatic legalisms to spice up the runtime when it releases on April 15.
