Philbin’s former co-host recalled her long relationship with the television icon
“I saw Regis get out of the car with Joy, and I sensed much more fragility than I’d seen him in since the last time in January,” she said. After sharing how much fun the former television co-hosts had together, Gifford added, “I just thought to myself, Lord, is that the last time I’m going to see my friend? Because he was failing, I could tell.”for 15 years, from 1985-2000. According to Gifford, the pair remained “dear friends” in the 20 years since.
The feeling of admiration was mutual. As Kotb said in the interview on Monday, Philbin once told Gifford, “I want you to know, the best part of my life—my TV life—was the 15 years I spent with you.”
