Amtrak train cars derail in tunnel near Union Station; no injuries reported
Two cars on an Amtrak train derailed Tuesday morning in a tunnel near the entrance to Union Station in Washington, according to D.C. fire officials. Authorities said the incident was minor and the cars remained upright.Firefighters boarded the train and emergency workers evaluated one person, but no other injuries were reported, according to fire department officials. One Amtrak employee was transported for a minor medical condition, they said.
Passengers were moved to the train’s other cars, which were then taken to the L’Enfant Plaza station for unloading. Amtrak service was disrupted in and out of Washington. Trains heading between the District and Alexandria “are stopped due to a disabled train in the tunnel blocking the tracks south of Washington,” the railroad said.
