'American Idol' is touting the virtual tour as the first time it will 'visit' all 50 states to find singers.
"Idol," which became the first reality competition to stage a fully remote episode last spring due to the pandemic, promises"to continue to break new innovative boundaries with custom-built Zoom technology to host … its first-ever live virtual nationwide search for the next superstar," ABC said in a statement.to register and find more details.
In past seasons, the show has supplemented its road search by allowing singers to submit their own videos, as it did when launching ancampaign for ABC's fourth season in April. However,"Idol Across America" will provide singers real-time interaction with producers, a staple of the show's audition process over the years.
The tour starts Aug. 10 with singers from Delaware, Florida and Ohio, and runs through Sept. 9, with groups of states assigned specific dates. That will help"Idol" spread out auditions so that singers can perform"face-to-face" for a producer, "staying true to roots by providing aspiring Idols real-time feedback.
"Idol" is touting the tour as the first time it will"visit" all 50 states to find singers, but that's in virtual terms. Over the years, the show, which had a 15-season run on Fox before moving to ABC, has hit the road to find contestants, visiting a group of big cities each season to hold auditions and finding other singers via the traveling Idol Bus and video submissions.
