American Airlines Group Inc. and United Airlines Holdings Inc. updated Wall Street on their most recent quarters and on their expectations for the rest of the year, but only one of the two saw their stock rise on Thursday.
American AAL reported second-quarter earlier Thursday, beating expectations and offering a rosier outlook. United UAL reported late Wednesday and also topped Wall Street views and raised its outlook for the year. American’s full-year guidance was “modest” as compared with peers, Citi analyst Stephen Trent said in a note Thursday.
Labor is a more delicate point for American, as United recently arrived at a deal with its pilots, offering salary raises of up to 40% and boosts for benefits.
