But this year, they played a key role in shutting down cities during the pandemic, and as the civilian commanders of police forces, they are now at the root of the problems their constituents are protesting.

Their job descriptions have changed significantly, and many of them are getting more national attention than ever—and not handling it all that well.the 38-year-old mayor of Minneapolis. Shame!” after he refused to say he would abolish the department.
