Babak Parviz, head of Amazon's moonshot lab who previously created Google Glass, steps down as Amazon's healthcare business struggles
Amazon has been scaling back several parts of its business, following a two-year pandemic-driven overexpansion effort that left the company with excess labor and warehouse space. The Grand Challenge team, meanwhile, has been tasked with working on the most ambitious, long-term projects that may not always show immediate financial viability. Almost all of its projects have so far failed to gain much traction.
Parviz's departure adds to the growing list of high-profile executive turnover at Amazon. Amazon lost over 50 VP-or-higher-level executives in 2021, and it's on a similar pace this year, according to a tally of departures Insider maintains.
