Both Downer Place and the Water Street Mall were packed with local art vendors as the 13th Alley Art Festival kicked off at noon Saturday.
Organizers said the five-hour festival drew a record 90 artists this year, the most ever and a healthy sign that made those attending including returning artist Elizabeth French of Aurora feel optimistic about sales again this year.“I’m back for the third time. My work is best described as a visual artist mostly focusing on ink drawings and watercolor and acrylic painting,” she said. “I go to a number of art shows throughout the year but this is the one I’ve done the best at during the season.
“I love having local talent and Aurora is the little big town and people know each other,” she said. “I was at the farmers market and decided to come over.” Aurora resident Rich Wagener checks out some art Saturday during the 13th annual Alley Art Festival in downtown Aurora. “We didn’t even realize this was happening today,” Jensen said. “As far as shows, I really love looking at all the ceramics as well as anything with ink and watercolor. There has really been a great variety at this show, a little bit more than I’ve seen at other art shows, and it seems like there is something for everybody. We already have things in the bag.”
