While Aaron Sorkin's political drama The West Wing is often lauded as one of the best TV shows ever, not every season of the series lives up to this.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT While The West Wing is one of Aaron Sorkin’s most famous projects, not all of the political drama’s seven seasons achieved the same level of quality. Even the most acclaimed TV shows have to go through rough patches and The West Wing is no exception. Created by Sorkin, The West Wing followed the administration of Martin Sheen’s Democratic president Jed Bartlet.
7 Season 5 Aaron Sorkin's Exit Comes At a Cost While there are plenty of problems with Sorkin’s seasons of The West Wing, the first season after he left the series is comfortably its worst outing. The West Wing season 5 opened with a flat resolution for the previous season’s admittedly ludicrous cliffhanger, as Zoey’s kidnapping plot ended with a predictable whimper.
5 Season 6 The Best Post-Sorkin Season The West Wing season 6 had a secret weapon up its sleeve in the form of Texas congressman Matt Santos. Played by the charismatic Jimmy Smith, Santos was the shining light of the Democratic Party, who Josh was tasked with turning into a presidential candidate. Since the health of Sheen’s President Bartlet was already failing, there were built-in stakes for this storyline.
4 Season 1 The West Wing's Shaky Start While The West Wing’s debut season is far stronger than the first outings of many classic shows, the series still went through some growing pains during this period. For one thing, Rob Lowe’s Sam Seaborn is the show’s leading man before Bartlet ever appears onscreen and it takes a few episodes before the series works out how to balance its focus between every member of its sizable ensemble.
