“For a while I didn’t think that I could get pregnant,” the “Blue Bayou” star, who became a mom in 2021, said of her “tough” fertility struggles.
Alicia Vikander revealed she suffered an “extreme, painful” miscarriage prior to conceiving her and Michael Fassbender’s first baby.in an interview published Sunday.
“I tried to get pregnant for a while,” she continued. “So I had tough times during lockdown [amid the coronavirus pandemic]. I struggled for a while. … For a while I didn’t think that I could get pregnant.” While Vikander was initially on the fence about sharing her pregnancy loss, she decided the “tough” experience was too “universal” to keep to herself.
“I kind of stopped and thought, ‘Am I going to talk about this?’” she explained. “But so many women go through similar things.”The Oscar winner went on to say that her miscarriage experience gave “another meaning” to her role in “The Light Between Oceans” in 2016, in which her character, Isabel Graysmark, lost two pregnancies.
Additionally, in her recent HBO miniseries “Irma Vep,” Vikander plays a pop star who performs immediately after miscarrying.Vikander compared the fictional celebrity to her colleagues, saying, “Sometimes you go through things that are tough in life, and if you have an office job you can step away for a bit.“But there are times [they] have been through something and, well, I can’t understand how they went on to the red carpet afterwards,” she continued.
