Black Noise Continues Pettyfer's Biggest Career Trend After having made his debut with the movie adaptation of the YA spy novel Stormbreaker, Pettyfer began seeing more success onscreen beginning in 2011 with the trio of modest box office hits I Am Number Four, Beastly, and In Time. He would quickly follow this up with an acclaimed turn in the original Magic Mike movie and the loose historical biopics The Butler and Elvis & Nixon.
Pettyfer would first return to the sci-fi genre with the 2018 Netflix miniseries The I-Land, in which a group of people awaken on a deserted tropical island with no memory of who they are or how they got there. Unlike his prior genre efforts, the show was widely panned by critics and audiences alike, with many unfavorably comparing it to Lost and Westworld.
With his turn in Black Noise, Pettyfer looks to be trying his hand at a similar unseen force that made Bird Box and A Quiet Place franchises successful, though it remains unclear from the trailer whether it's a supernatural or alien entity causing the deadly sound, or if it's a man-made threat.
