Talk show host Alex Jones's broadcast website Infowars filed for bankruptcy amid several defamation lawsuits.
Infowars and two other companies Jones owns filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Sunday in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.
The Chapter 11 filing will put a hold on pending civil litigation while allowing the businesses to continue operating as it prepares turnaround plans to handle costs.The companies listed in the filing included Infowars, IWHealth, and Prison Planet TV, according to documents viewed by the Washington Examiner. Infowars claimed in the filing that it has assets of $0 to $50,000 and liabilities of $1,000,001 to $10 million.
Jones has been dealing with several lawsuits over his claims that the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting was a false flag operation. Jones was found guilty by default in four lawsuits due to his unwillingness to hand over requested documents. He initially faced increasing fines over his decision to continue skipping his depositions. However, the court refunded those fines on Friday.
"The so-called offer is a transparent and desperate attempt by Alex Jones to escape a public reckoning under oath with his deceitful, profit-driven campaign against the plaintiffs and the memory of their loved ones lost at Sandy Hook," the families said in a statement sent to Connecticut Public.
