The Cliftonhill men progress but the had to work hard for their second round victory on gaffer Sandy Clark's birthday
Ten-man Albion Rovers edged past St Andrews United to book their place in the Scottish Cup third round - and deliver a birthday present for gaffer Sandy Clark.
East of Scotland League side St Andrews - who had defeated West of Scotland Premier giants Auchinleck Talbot in the previous round - came roaring back seven minutes later when substitute Lewis Sawers looked like he might spoil Clark's party. Rovers made one change from last week's 1-0 win over Berwick Rangers, as Joe Bevan - the hero and man of the match from their first round win over Stirling Uni - missed out. He was replaced in the line-up by winger Josh Tran.
Despite that, United should have taken the lead in the ninth minute. A long ball caused chaos and Reece Redpath got the break of it, pushing his way into the box and going one-on-one with Rovers keeper Ross Connelly. Thankfully for Rovers, Redpath hit his effort straight at Connelly and they escaped punishment.
St Andrews were still capable of causing problems of their own and in 54 minutes Connelly was called into action when he got down well to turn Ryan Digan's low drive round the post. However, the lead lasted just seven minutes as United levelled through substitute Lewis Sawers latched on to Ryan McManus's ball into the box and poked the ball past Connelly, who got a hand to the strike and just couldn't keep it out.
