The next class of inductees into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame will be announced later this year. Who would you like to see honored?
Their songs and music are why some musicians live forever. Still, awards and recognition from one’s peers and industry are nice too, even for artists whose work has reached millions of people. And even for many artists who dismiss such accolades until they’re bestowed with them.
But the most striking display in the museum is the painted portraits of inductees. Below are eight music acts deserving of being inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame and having their portraits hung there too. They certainly aren’t the only deserving possibilities. There were several others it was difficult for me to leave off. This is just my take, and a discussion starter. Whoever goes into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 2022 will be among great company.

Alabama roots: Group founded in Athens by four Alabama natives Bona fides: Johnson first got his foot in the door in Nashville as a songwriter. In the mid-2000s, he co-wrote big hits for the likes of George Strait and Trace Adkins. Johnson finally broke out in 2009 as an artist with poignant top 10 hit “In Color,” pushing his classic-country album “That Lonesome Song” to platinum sales. His follow-up LP, “The Guitar Song,” debuted in the top five of the Billboard 200 and went gold.
