The Crimson Tide won its fifth-straight game on Saturday, outlasting Arkansas.
Each team is assigned a numerical value attached to its ranking and both the Longhorns and Tide earned 1,078 votes. The electorate includes coaches around the country, including Nick Saban and Auburn’s Hugh Freeze. At least voter placed Alabama as high as third.
Week 7 featured a handful of ranked teams losing while the Crimson Tide won its fifth straight game. Alabama outlasted Arkansas for a 24-21 victory. Alabama started well, mounting a 21-6 lead over the Razorbacks. But a slouching offense and untimely penalties allowed Arkansas to make it an interesting finish for the homecoming crowd.
Georgia remained in the top spot, earning all 58 first-place votes. The top four remained the same — Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State — and Washington climbed to No. 5 after beating then-No. 8 Oregon . The Tide’s next opponent, Tennessee, was ranked 15th after beating Texas A&M, 20-13. Alabama’s only future-ranked opponent is No. 19 LSU.
