AKRON, Ohio — A 13-year-old male is in custody after an attempted carjacking in East Akron left the victim’s vehicle riddled with bullets, according to police.
The victim, a 27-year-old woman, was not seriously injured in the incident in the Rosemary Apartment Complex on Tarson Terrace, police say. A search is underway for other suspects believed to have been involved in the attempted carjacking. Officers were called to the apartment complex at about 4:20 p.m. Saturday for reports of shots fired. The victim tells police that the teen and other suspects tried to take her car while she was unloading groceries. One of the suspects punched her in the face and tried to drive way in the vehicle, police say.
The suspect in the car jumped out of the vehicle while it was still moving and the car rolled across the parking lot and into an apartment building, police say. Officers later found the 13-year-old in the parking lot near the car and he was arrested without incident. He has been charged with aggravated robbery and theft.
Police say multiple shots were fired during the incident, but details of the shooting were not released. Shell casings were found at the scene.
