It was likely caused by a failure of the fuel system
An aircraft was destroyed by fire after an emergency landing in Northamptonshire. A report was published by the Air Accident Investigation Branch about the incident on September 22 last year at 4.25pm.
As the aircraft came to a halt, there was a "flashfire on the port side" of the aircraft and the pilot bailed out. Amazingly, they did not suffer any injuries during the incident.Despite the efforts of airport staff with fire extinguishers, the plane - a Nord NC.850 made in 1955 - was rapidly destroyed by the blaze. The report also says all the take-off engine oil, temperature and power checks had been normal.
The investigation added it "could not definitively establish the cause of the fire" but it is likely a failure of the fuel system in the engine bay, which in turn led to a leak of fuel which was ignited on hot engine surfaces, sparking a blaze which took over the aircraft.
