Steven Udall and his family returning to Anchorage for Udall's new civilian role with Tommy's Express Car Wash. But Jessy Lakin with the Alaska Warrior Partnership seemed to put a finger on that unspoken quality. As the AWP program lead, Lakin is in contact with many veterans who return to Alaska. The organization aims to connect nonprofits and veterans who can benefit from their services while transitioning from a military career to civilian life.
Udall’s job search ultimately led him to Tommy’s Express. He said the journey so far has been relatively smooth. The excitement of returning to the north has taken the sting out of any complications.“If you come back to Alaska, it’s almost mandatory to grow a beard,” he said. “So there’s a lot of things that I think are going to be great. Just knowing that you’re not going to be deployed on a moment’s notice.
