The tragedy occurred just after midnight on June 16 that year. Beary was celebrating her 21st birthday party at the former Library Gardens apartment block on 2020 Kittredge Street with friends and family, most of whom were visiting the U.S. from Dublin over the summer on J-1 visas, when the fifth floor balcony snapped in half.
Six people died including Ashley Donohoe, 22, of Rohnert Park, and Olivia Burke, Eoghan Colligan, Niccolai Schuster, Lorean Miller and Eimear Walsh, all of whom were 21 and from Ireland. Beary was among the seven people injured and suffered a traumatic brain injury, broken bones and organ lacerations. She received open heart surgery after the incident.
