Texas forward Christian Bishop has his shot blocked by Baylor forward Jalen Bridges during the first half of an NCAA college basketball game Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, in Waco, Texas. WACO — About a month before the season began, all ten Big 12 head coaches submitted their ballots for the annual preseason poll. A group of 13 journalists representing each of the league’s markets did the same for New York Times-owned website The Athletic.
Saturday afternoon, No. 9 Baylor and No. 8 Texas got together at the Ferrell Center. The Longhorns were in the thick of a conference title chase, tied with No. 3 Kansas atop the Big 12. The Bears had rebounded from their poor start to climb into third place, but they’d lost two straight heading into a rivalry game with substantial implications.
“Yeah, I mean we just can’t dwell on this one,” senior forward Dylan Disu said. “We got to take what we learned from this an apply it to next time.” Sophomore guard Tyrese Hunter built on Disu’s smooth shooting by canning an open 3 after the ball popped around the perimeter, then the Longhorns hit a handful of free throws to take a surprising 18-4 lead into the under-12 media timeout.

Gordon Chair of Texas history at Tarleton State University, explains what may have kept some Black residents in Texas after the Civil War, and Amber Sims, the executive director of the nonprofit Young Leaders, Strong City, details the progress that's been made and the steps we still need to take.
