AEW Dynamite edged out WWE NXT in Week 1 of the Wednesday Night Wars.
Google Trend analysis over the past 24 hours suggests both NXT and AEW were neck-and-neck, especially throughout each broadcast, with a slim edge going to AEW. Google Trends’ Geomap analysis shows “AEW Dynamite” was the more widely searched term in all but eight of the states where both shows went head-to-head. In fact, NXT’s biggest lead over AEW in Google searches during the two-hours of head-to-head first-run programming came during the 7:00 p.m.
And while NXT moved to USA Network two weeks prior to AEW Dynamite, perhaps the shrewd saboteur tactic on WWE’s end backfired as AEW appeared to benefit from a curiosity factor with fans looking to sample an alternative wrestling product. Week 1 of the Wednesday Night Wars went to AEW Dynamite. But Month 1, Year 1 and, god willing, Decade 1 will decide a whole lot more.
