ICYMI: A top executive with Aer Lingus said Thursday that early summer flights on the new Cleveland-to-Dublin route, which launched Friday, are already more than 90% booked.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Thinking about traveling to Ireland this summer on the new Aer Lingus flight? Better act fast. A top executive with the airline said early summer flights on the new Cleveland-to-Dublin route, which launches Friday, are already more than 90% booked.
Cleveland hasn’t had nonstop service to Europe since 2018, when two competing airlines flew between Hopkins and Reykjavik, Iceland. Neither route lasted a year. He added that Aer Lingus wouldn’t have chosen to fly from Cleveland if it didn’t think the market was strong enough to support the flight without the revenue guarantee.
The new route will run four times per week – Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays – although Moody said the plan is to make it daily in the future. “The Irish diaspora in Cleveland is strong,” he said, and he expects Irish-Americans in Northeast Ohio will convince their family and friends in Ireland to come for a visit.
Moody also noted that the vast majority of passengers this summer are traveling for pleasure, not work. Among the scheduled meetings: a gathering at Eaton’s world headquarters in Dublin; a discussion with local government leaders on topics including affordable housing and environmental stewardship; and a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Claire Cronin.
Mark Hollywood, vice president of global operations for Aurora’s Travel Connection, is seeing huge demand for this flight, and Ireland in general. Indeed, Owens said one of the reasons he thinks this route will be more successful than the Iceland flights is because of the connecting possibilities.
