Halfmoon Township—population 2,826—encapsulates the nation’s rural-urban divide, as it’s split fairly evenly between conservatives and liberals . Tucked in a narrow winding valley of middling farmland between the Chestnut and Bald Eagle ridges a stone’s throw from Penn State, Halfmoon in the 20th century was a cohesive farming community—not wealthy but getting by.
